Meaning of Still Loving You by Scorpions & The Story Behind

The German group Scorpions has released many beautiful lyrical ballads for almost half a century of creative activity, thanks to which even people who are infinitely far from rock music fell in love with it. Such incredibly popular compositions include Still Loving You.

Read on to learn a little about the history of the song, its possible undertones, and the baby boom it allegedly sparked in France.

The story of creation and the meaning of the song Still Loving You

In an interview with Songfacts, Rudolf Schenker spoke in detail about how the members of Scorpions composed and recorded Still Loving You.

Let’s listen to the musician:

I came up with the melody of the composition and so on. It took about six years to somehow include the song on the album. Matthias Jabs composed the guitar part, and immediately there was a feeling that it fits perfectly, and Klaus noticed it too. Hence, he wanted to write something special. He told me that one day he went for a walk in a snowy field and just then composed the words. He came home, wrote them down – and here they are.

This is a story about a love relationship, when they realized that everything could end, but they should try again. It’s an old story, always an old story. I mean what else can be used? We cannot reinvent the wheel. What we always do is tell what has already been told many times, but in our own way.

Although members of the Scorpions have always said that Still Loving You is a love ballad, some music lovers see political overtones in some of the phrases. The mention of the wall in the song is associated with the Berlin Wall, which separated the GDR and West Berlin.

Release and achievements

In 1984, Still Loving You was included on the Love at First Sting album. It was released as a single, which peaked at number 64 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The song can also be heard on the remix compilation Still Loving You (1992). Later, the musicians re-recorded the composition three times:

  • first with the Berlin Philharmonic for the album Moment of Glory,
  • then in acoustic version (Acoustica disc)
  • and finally in 2011 for the Comeback album.

Still Loving You was especially popular in France, where almost two million copies of the single were sold. Moreover, in 1985 there was a surge in the birth rate in the country. Whether jokingly or seriously, the reason is called the song Still Loving You, under which many young people made love. It is said that many parents gave their children the name Sly (Sly), which is an abbreviation of the song title.

Still Loving You Lyrics by Scorpions

time, it needs time
To win make your love again
I will be there, I will be there
Love, only love
Can bring back your love someday
I will be there, I will be there

I’m still loving you
I’m still loving you

I’ll fight, baby, I’ll fight
To win back your love again
I will be there, I will be there
Love, only love
Can bring down the wall someday
I will be there, I will be there

chorus:
If we’d go again
All the way from the start
I would try to change
The things that killed our love
Your pride has built
A wall so strong
That I can’t get through
Is there really no chance
To start once again
I’m still loving you x4

Try, baby, try
To trust in my love again
I will be there, I will be there
Love, our love
Just shouldn’t be thrown away
I will be there, I will be there

Lyrics Still Loving You by Scorpions Alternate

Time, it takes time
To win your love again
I will be there, I will be there
Love, only love
Able to return your love one day
I will be there, I will be there

I still love you
I still love you

I will fight baby I will fight
To return your love
I will be there, I will be there
Love, only love
Able to destroy the wall one day
I will be there, I will be there

Chorus:
If we were again
Started all over again
I would try to change
What killed our love
Your pride has built
Such a strong wall
That I can’t break through
Is there really no chance
Start over again
I still love you – x4

Try baby try
Believe in my love again
I will be there, I will be there
Love, our love
You can’t just throw it away
I will be there, I will be there
