Meaning of Mama, I’m Coming Home by Ozzy Osbourne

It is not known how the fate of Ozzy Osbourne would have developed if he had not met Sharon Arden, the daughter of a Black Sabbath manager. In 1977, the death of his father drove the musician into a terrible depression. He parted ways with the band, sat in a hotel room for weeks without opening the curtains, and even began contemplating suicide.

Only Sharon managed to bring the outrageous musician out of a depressing state. She convinced him to take up a solo career, put things in order, and a little later she married him.

God only knows what this strong woman went through as Ozzy’s wife. Alcohol, drugs, depression, severe crises, litigation and all kinds of accusations are just a few of the components of Osborne’s life. According to him, he survived only thanks to his wife, who made him give up addictions and take up his mind.

The history of creation and the meaning of the song Mama, I’m Coming Home

It was to his wife, whom Ozzy affectionately calls “Mom”, that he dedicated the ballad Mama, I’m Coming Home. With this phrase, he usually informed her by phone about the impending end of the tour.

The song was co-written by Lemmy Kilmister, vocalist and bassist for the rock band Motörhead. Ozzy nurtured the melody for several years, but it was only possible to finish it together with Zakk Wilde while working on the No More Tears album, which included Mama, I’m Coming Home.

Release and achievements

Listeners appreciated such a radical change in Ozzy’s image. In the United States, Mama, I’m Coming Home proved to be one of the biggest hits of the spring of 1992, even though grunge was in vogue at the time. It became Osbourne’s second song to reach the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 (previously “Close My Eyes Forever”, a duet with Lita Ford).

Video of Mama, I’m Coming Home

Two music videos were shot for the single. Ozzy didn’t like the first option. The musician felt that he did not match the mood of the song. Therefore, later he invited director Samuel Beyer to work on a new video.

Mama, I’m Coming Home Lyrics by Ozzy Osbourne

Times have changed and times are strange
Here I come but I ain’t the same
Mama, I’m coming home

Times gone by, seems to be
You could have been a better friend to me
Mama, I’m coming home

You took me in and you drove me out
Yeah, you had me hypnotized, yeah
Lost and found and turned around
By the fire in your eyes

You made me cry, you told me lies
But I can’t stand to say goodbye
Mama, I’m coming home

I could be right, I could be wrong
It hurts so bad it’s been so long
Mama, I’m coming home

Selfish love yeah we’re both alone
The ride before the fall, yeah
But I’m gonna take this heart of stone
I just got to have it all

I’ve seen your face a hundred times
Everyday we’ve been apart
And I don’t care about the sunshine, yeah
‘Cause mama, mama, I’m coming home
I’m coming home

Lyrics of Mama, I’m Coming Home by Ozzy Osbourne

Times have changed and become unusual
Here I am, but not the same as before,
Mom I’m coming home

Time has passed and it seems
We could live better
Mom I’m coming home

You took me in and kicked me out
Yes, hypnotized me
Lost, found and changed for the better
Fire in your eyes

You made me cry, you lied to me
But I can’t stand to say goodbye
Mom I’m coming home

I could be right, I could be wrong
What a pity that it lasted so long
Mom I’m coming home

Selfish love, yes we’re both alone
Walk before the fall, yeah
But I won’t be callous anymore
I just have to get it all

I remembered your face hundreds of times
Every day that we were apart
And I don’t need sunlight, yeah
‘Cause mom, mom, I’m coming home
I am going back home
