History of the creation of the song Stumblin’ In
Words and music written by Mike Chapman (Mike Chapman) and Nicky Chinn (Nicky Chinn), authors of many famous works by Smokie and Suzi Quatro.
The story of Stumblin’ In began at a party thrown in connection with some award that the band Smokie received. Chapman played some of the new songs he had written with Chinn, and then Chris and Susie took the stage. When Norman hugged Quattro, Mike thought that they could win the hearts of the public by performing as a duet.
He came up with the line “our love is alive” (“our love is alive”), and the next day he invited Susie to record a new track with Chris. She agreed, Chris also did not have to be persuaded for a long time. Chapman and Chinn set to work on the composition, the musicians performed the song, and it was included in the album If You Knew Suzi …, completed in the fall of 1978.

The album was released in the US in January 1979. The song peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100, topped the Canadian chart, and became a hit in several other countries.
Suzi Quatro recalled:
I was part of the glam rock scene, but I don’t think glam rock ever made it to the US. My All Shook Up and Skin Tight Skin were on the radio all the time, and Can the Can a little less, but my biggest hit was the country rock record, Stumblin’ In.
