Most of the songs of the American band Paramore are based on rather heavy guitar riffs, typical for rock music. But in 2013, Hayley Williams and her bandmates surprised the audience with the track “Still into You”, so unlike their previous records. Although not all fans of the band liked such innovations, most music lovers and critics appreciated the composition with a catchy melody and touching words.
Williams does not hide the fact that in “Still into You” she sings about the very tender feelings that she still has for her boyfriend Chad Gilbert:
…of course it’s a love song. She is clearly funny. But anyway, for me – and obviously since I wrote it, I might be biased – it’s not a snotty love song. We wrote “The Only Exception” some time ago, and that song is obviously like a slow love ballad, but this one is not like that at all. It makes me very happy! We haven’t done this before, and to be honest, I don’t have much experience writing love songs or similar lyrics.
In an interview with MTV, Hailey also spoke about the fact that working on the composition was a lot of new things both for her and for the rest of Paramore:
I’m not used to writing love songs, so it surprised me. And when we got to the chorus, I remember asking Taylor [Йорка]: “Isn’t that too poppy? Can you do it? May I sing like this?” And I remember Taylor would say, “Well, do you like it?” And I’m like, “I really like it!” And he said: “Well, then do not care about everyone. Do it anyway!”
In general, the whole process of composing and recording went like this. If we liked something and believed in it, we did it. We didn’t turn down anything just because it was different or something we hadn’t tried before.
The song makes extensive use of synthesizers, which somewhat puzzled Paramore fans.
Here is how Taylor Yorke explained the departure from the usual style:
“Still into You” came about because our old approach no longer worked. It arose out of discontent. We were constantly dissatisfied, and then we just played something at random on some instrument, and it gave a kind of spark. “Still into You” started out as an organ part and then somehow evolved into this pop song. She took a cool shape, unusual for us.
The track was recorded in Los Angeles in 2012. In March 2013, it was released as the second single from Paramore. The song topped the official UK rock chart. It peaked at number 24 on the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at number fifteen on the UK Singles Chart.
And now let’s take a look at the video clip for “Still into You”, which was shot by the famous director Isaac Rentz.
Lyrics of Still Into You“Still Into You” lyricsCan’t count the years on one hand
That we’ve been together
I need the other one to hold you
Make you feel, make you feel better
It’s not a walk in the park
To love each other
But when our fingers interlock,
Can’t deny, can’t deny you’re worth it
‘Cause after all this time I’m still into you
that you and I are together
And I need the second one to hold you
Make you, make you happier
To love each other –
This is not a walk in the park
But when we interlock our fingers
I don’t argue, I don’t argue – you’re worth it
‘Cause after all this time I’m still in love with you Chorus:
I should be over all the butterflies
But I’m into you (I’m into you)
And baby even on our worst nights
I’m into you (I’m into you)
Let ’em wonder how we got this far
‘Cause I don’t really need to wonder at all
Yeah, after all this time I’m still into you
I should have said goodbye to quivering feelings
But I’m in love with you (I’m in love with you)
Baby, even on our worst nights
I’m in love with you (I’m in love with you)
Let them wonder how we lasted so long
‘Cause I shouldn’t be surprised
Yes, after all this time, I’m still in love with you Recount the night that
I first met your mother
And on the drive back to my house
I told you that, I told you that I loved you
You felt the weight of the world
Fall off your shoulder
And to your favorite song
We sang along to the start of forever
And after all this time I’m still into you
I met your mother
And on the way to my house
I said that… I said that I love you
Did you feel that the stone
Fell off my shoulders
And we sang along to the end of time
your favorite song
And after all this time I’m still in love with you Some things just, some things just make sense
And one of those is you and I (Hey)
Some things just, some things just make sense
And even after all this time (Hey)
I’m into you, baby, not a day goes by
That I’m not into you
Like you and me
Some things just… some things just go without saying
And even after all this time
I’m in love with you baby and not a day goes by
That I don’t love you
Sure, it’s still a Paramore, but better.
“Still into You” could be mistaken for the B-side of the old Cars.
