Still Into You – Paramore Meaning

Most of the songs of the American band Paramore are based on rather heavy guitar riffs, typical for rock music. But in 2013, Hayley Williams and her bandmates surprised the audience with the track “Still into You”, so unlike their previous records. Although not all fans of the band liked such innovations, most music lovers and critics appreciated the composition with a catchy melody and touching words.

Williams does not hide the fact that in “Still into You” she sings about the very tender feelings that she still has for her boyfriend Chad Gilbert:

…of course it’s a love song. She is clearly funny. But anyway, for me – and obviously since I wrote it, I might be biased – it’s not a snotty love song. We wrote “The Only Exception” some time ago, and that song is obviously like a slow love ballad, but this one is not like that at all. It makes me very happy! We haven’t done this before, and to be honest, I don’t have much experience writing love songs or similar lyrics.

In an interview with MTV, Hailey also spoke about the fact that working on the composition was a lot of new things both for her and for the rest of Paramore:

I’m not used to writing love songs, so it surprised me. And when we got to the chorus, I remember asking Taylor [Йорка]: “Isn’t that too poppy? Can you do it? May I sing like this?” And I remember Taylor would say, “Well, do you like it?” And I’m like, “I really like it!” And he said: “Well, then do not care about everyone. Do it anyway!”
In general, the whole process of composing and recording went like this. If we liked something and believed in it, we did it. We didn’t turn down anything just because it was different or something we hadn’t tried before.

The song makes extensive use of synthesizers, which somewhat puzzled Paramore fans.

Here is how Taylor Yorke explained the departure from the usual style:

“Still into You” came about because our old approach no longer worked. It arose out of discontent. We were constantly dissatisfied, and then we just played something at random on some instrument, and it gave a kind of spark. “Still into You” started out as an organ part and then somehow evolved into this pop song. She took a cool shape, unusual for us.

The track was recorded in Los Angeles in 2012. In March 2013, it was released as the second single from Paramore. The song topped the official UK rock chart. It peaked at number 24 on the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at number fifteen on the UK Singles Chart.
