The Old Testament hero Samson became famous for his numerous exploits in the war against the Philistines, but he managed to fall in love with a woman from the camp of the enemy named Delilah. She found out the secret of his power, and helped her compatriots defeat the mighty warrior. Since then, Delilah has often been referred to as the embodiment of female deceit.
When Freddie Mercury, vocalist of the rock band Queen, performed the song Delilah, many fans of the band’s work decided that it was dedicated to the biblical Delilah or some woman in the singer’s life (although some lines from the text could not but confuse a reasonable person). Everything fell into place when it turned out that Freddie sang only about a cat.
The history of creation and the meaning of the song Delilah
Mercury had six of them: Delilah, Tiffany, Miko, Oscar, Samson and Goliath. Delilah was the singer’s favorite cat, although he was crazy about all pets. While on tour, Freddie talked to them on the phone, brought them from abroad a huge amount of toys and tons of food that could not be obtained in London.
He wrote the song Delilah when he was in Switzerland and, as usual, yearned for his cats. It can hardly be put on a par with the best compositions of the Queen group, although many fans really like it.

- They say that when Mercury presented this song to the group, Roger Taylor categorically refused to play it, but then he still could not refuse Freddie.
- At the end of the song, Brian May masterfully played the cat’s meow on the guitar.
