Meaning of Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) & The Story Behind

The famous magazine Rolling Stone is known for the fact that it often publishes all sorts of ratings. In 2010, he compiled a list of the greatest rock and roll Christmas songs. The first line in it was taken by the composition Christmas (Baby Please Come Home), which, since the sixties, has been performed by dozens of bands and singers.

We will talk about this song.

The story behind Baby Please Come Home

Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) was presented to the public as one of the tracks on the A Christmas Gift for You from Philles Records compilation, which was released in 1963 by renowned producer Phil Spector. The song was written by Ellie Greenwich and Jeff Barry, and Darlene Love became its first performer.

Immediately after the release of the collection on sale, Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) did not become a hit. The song was also released as a single, but it happened on the very sad day that President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. The festive mood in the country was, to put it mildly, spoiled, so people had no time for Christmas songs.

However, fame did not bypass the song Christmas (Baby Please Come Home). Over the years, various popular musicians (U2, Cher, Bon Jovi, Mariah Carey and others) began to record covers for it, and gradually the composition became one of the most famous Christmas songs.

We invite you to listen to the version of Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) performed by the rock band U2.

Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) lyrics

(Christmas)
The snow’s coming down
(Christmas)
I’m watching it fall
(Christmas)
Lots of people around
(Christmas)
Baby please come home

(Christmas)
The church bells in town
(Christmas)
All ringing in song
(Christmas)
Full of happy sounds
(Christmas)
Baby please come home

They’re singing “Deck the Halls”
But it’s not like Christmas at all
I remember when you were here
And all the fun we had last year

(Christmas)
Pretty lights on the tree
(Christmas)
I’m watching them shine
(Christmas)
You should be here with me
(Christmas)
Baby please come home

They’re singing “Deck the Halls”
Not like Christmas at all
I remember when you were here
And all the fun we had last year

(Christmas)
Oh if there was a way
(Christmas)
I’d hold back these tears
(Christmas)
Oh but it’s Christmas day
(please)
Please
