Songwriter and musician Nile Rodgers has known the members of Daft Punk since the late 1990s and was keen to work with them, but for a long time he did not get the chance to offer his services. American rapper Pharrell Williams met the duo at Madonna’s party and also dreamed of a collaboration.

I did four or five takes and they chose what they liked. Then I sang each of these passages over and over again. What is the song Get Lucky about? It’s an upbeat disco track about being lucky enough to meet the person who will become your soul mate.
The phrase “get some” in American slang means “to have sex”but Farrell argues that the meaning of the composition is deeper:
Luck means not just sleeping with her, but meeting a person, upon meeting with whom everything immediately becomes clear.
The first line mentions a phoenix from Greek mythology. In Places and Spaces I’ve Been, Farrell explained why he used this image.
I like to use the phoenix allegory to describe how my work is progressing. The bird sets itself on fire… and an egg appears in the ashes. I mean, in order to do great things, you must not be afraid to step away from what your previous successes are connected with, because you must be renewed again and again, and this is impossible if you hold on to the glory of yesterday. You must continue to change today, constantly thinking about tomorrow.
Recording and release
The track was worked on at New York’s Electric Lady Studios. Prior to the song’s official release, the television show Saturday Night Live ran short commercials. Then they presented the trailer at the Coachella festival. The title of the track was first heard on The Collaborators show.
A few days before the release of Get Lucky, someone “leaked” the song, and it was played on popular radio stations. The single was released on April 19, 2013. He topped dozens of charts around the world, but stopped at number two on the Billboard Hot 100.
At the 56th Grammy Awards, Get Lucky was named Best Recording of the Year and Best Song by a Pop Duo or Group. The authors performed it on stage with Stevie Wonder.
Rodgers commented on the song’s overwhelming success:
I sometimes think how it happened that people liked it so much, because we just decided to go into the studio and record something … And how did something like this come about? It’s just incredible, because no one was ready for this!
