Fatality & Bloodshed – What is the 2021 Mortal Kombat movie remembered for, and what to expect next. The cult Mortal Kombat video game series has built a huge fan base over the decades of its existence. Movies of the late 90s in this universe were also quite good. However, after all the successes of the film franchise came to naught, and everyone forgot about the Mortal Kombat films for a long time.

And in 2021, director Simon McQuoid decided to revive the former glory, and reanimate an extremely interesting universe. If you haven’t seen it yet, here’s the trailer for the movie.

About whether he succeeded or not, and we’ll talk today. Get comfortable, it will be interesting.

Briefly about the main

Work on the script for the film, which was given to Dave Callahan, began in early 2019. One of the main requirements of the studio is the presence of several storylines, so as not to repeat the history of the 1995 film.

It is known that the shooting “in nature” started in the fall of 2019, and ended on December 13. Such efficiency, by today’s standards, is very good.

According to Kinopoisk, the film’s budget was $55 million. The box office in the US alone gave 42 million, and the worldwide distribution, approximately, gave the same amount. At the same time, Russian viewers contributed 11.6 million to the box office of the film.

Now let’s briefly go over the actors of the main characters of Mortal Kombat 2021.

Major Jackson “Jax” Briggs was played by American Mekhad Brooks. The director of the picture demanded from him that he gained an additional 10 kg of muscle mass.

Behind the assassination is a Chinese assassin with superpowers, Bi Han. He soon pierces Hanzo’s heart with his blade. However, in this massacre, a little daughter survived, who continued the lineage of her father.

After we are introduced to the main character of the film – Cole Young. He is not the best MMA fighter, and extremely often loses in the most simple, at first glance, sparring.

And, by the coincidence of a lot of circumstances, it is on his body that he has a birthmark in the form of a looped dragon. And now the fate of not only Japan, but of all mankind, lies in his hands.

Author’s opinion

After 25 years of inactivity in the Mortal Kombat MCU, many were waiting for a restart. It happened. And not to say that everything turned out badly. There are just a few points that are very striking:

The main character Cole Young is devoid of any charisma, and there is no originality in his story. In general, we see the standard story of the formation of a hero, his ascent from a conditional “simple guy” to a person on whom a lot depends. As soon as the camera turns away from Cole Young to show us Liu Kang, Sub-Zero or Shang Tsung, the movie goes into the category of some pathetic and, at certain moments, facepalm episodes. Once the film moves away from the really fun action sequences, it all comes down to simple dialogue that fails to tie the story together. This is especially evident even against the backdrop of the games in the series, the writers of which, in between matches, managed to tell even mythologically pathos stories, but still created a complete picture of what was happening.

What Simon McQuoid did really well was the action of the scene – blood flows generously, skulls crack like ripe watermelons, the crunch of bones is familiar from the Mortal Kombat series of games. There are no questions about this.

Whether there will be a continuation of the original story is still unknown. However, rumors about a solo film about Scorpio are intensely circulating on the network. But let’s wait and see.
