Meaning of Dancing Barefoot by Patti Smith & The Story Behind

The relationship between the French artist Jeanne Hebuterne and the great Italian creator Amedeo Modigliani is a sad story of a short but passionate love with a bitter ending. Their relationship lasted about three years, during which the girl was the muse of the famous impressionist and the main theme in his work. When Modigliani died of tuberculous meningitis, a devoted companion, pregnant with her second child, jumped out of the window.

The story of creation and the meaning of the song Dancing Barefoot

Jeanne Hebuterne and all women who are ready to sacrifice for the sake of pure love, Patti Smith dedicated the composition Dancing Barefoot. She co-wrote the song with musician and composer Ivan Kral.

Patti Smith called lovemaking “one of the five higher senses” available to man. The singer described organicism as “a method of communication with our creator.” These views of the singer can be traced in the lines of the song.

In May 1979, Dancing Barefoot was released as the second single from the album Wave, the fourth in the discography of the Patti Smith Group. It has become one of Patti Smith’s most famous songs.
