The famous composition Bring Me to Life became the first single from the debut official studio album of the American rock band Evanescence.

The main idea of the song belongs to Amy Lee, but guitarist Ben Moody and keyboardist David Hodges also took part in the work on the musical work.
Amy Lee has repeatedly said that a conversation with a certain man prompted her to write the song, although the singer hid for a long time who she was talking about:
The inspiration to write it came when someone said something to me. I didn’t know him and I thought he might be clairvoyant… I was in a relationship and was completely unhappy. But I hid it. In terms of personal relationships, I had a really difficult time. He was sitting across from me when we went to book a table, and he just looked me straight in the eyes and said, “Are you happy?” And it shocked me so much that I lowered my eyes and just started making excuses. I had a hard time finding words, because it seemed to me that on the outside I saw myself in a completely natural way, but inside I was a complete mess. I felt like he could see right into my soul. This became the inspiration for the entire song. It wasn’t until years later that I told him that the song was about him.

Amy Lee also spoke about the process of working on Bring Me to Life:
Ben had a musical idea with programming and guitars and stuff. And then I just took it to my room, stayed alone and wrote the lyrics and the melody. It all came out very, very easy… I wrote the first couple of verses entirely by myself and was proud of my lyrics, like, “These are the best lyrics I’ve ever written”… I brought them to Ben and was very excited. But then there was a really big problem with the chorus, which just didn’t work. We composed, it seems, about five variants and recorded them in the form of demos.

The male vocals were sung by Paul McCoy. They say that Mike Shinoda was considered as a possible candidate for this role, but the producers liked the vocalist of the Christian rock band 12 Stones more.
Amy Lee recalled how she was told the need to bring in an additional performer:
It was presented to me like this: “You are a girl singing in a rock band, and there is nothing like that, and no one will listen to you. For the song to be successful, you need to get a guy to sing in the background.”

Achievements
On April 22, 2003, Bring Me to Life was released as the first single from Fallen, Evanescence’s debut studio LP, released on the Wind-up label.
Ed Vetri, head of the Wind-up record company, recalled that the song was not wanted on rock radio because of the female vocals. But after the release of the film “Daredevil” (Daredevil), in the soundtrack of which the composition sounded, the listeners themselves began to order it. As a result, Bring Me to Life topped the charts in more than fifteen countries.
At the 46th Grammy Awards, the song won the Best Hard Rock Performance category. It was also nominated for Best Rock Song but lost to the stunning Seven Nation Army The White Stripes.
The track was included in the list of 100 greatest songs of the 2000s according to VH1.
Video of Meaning Bring Me to Life
The Bring Me to Life music video was directed by Philipp Stölzl. The video, in which Amy dreams of falling from a skyscraper, was a huge success. The director explained his idea as follows:
On the one hand, he highlights the most catchy part of the song – a bunch, a duel of male and female vocals. On the other hand, it is reminiscent of the use of the song in the soundtrack [“Daredevil”].
