Fans of rock band AC/DC hardly need to be reminded of the circumstances under which Bon Scott died. This tragic event took place on February 19, 1980. Let’s remember the old Bon with an article about the song Back in Black dedicated to him.
At that time, the members of AC/DC were hard at work on their seventh album. Left without a vocalist, they thought about running away, but then decided that their deceased comrade would not approve of such an act. After trying several candidates, they settled on Brian Johnson, with whom they began to re-record the album.
The story behind and meaning of the song Back in Black – AC/DC
At the same time, the idea arose to dedicate a song to the deceased comrade that would correspond to his character and, accordingly, would be very cheerful and groovy. The name Back in Black appeared during Scott’s lifetime, and it seemed very appropriate to the members of the group. The guitar riff that opens the song has been played by Malcolm Young for several years during warm-ups before performances.
The words of the song Back in Black were assigned to write Brian Johnson, setting the following condition:
He [текст] should not cause unhealthy sensations, because for Bon it should be a celebration.
Brian set to work, simply writing down everything that came into his mind. At first it seemed like nonsense, but later the lyrics emerged, in which the rest of AC / DC saw a reflection of Bon’s life and approved of the song.
Release and achievements
Back in Black, which became the album’s title track, was released five months after Bon Scott’s death. She climbed to number 37 on the Billboard Hot 100.
In 1997, the Bon Scott tribute album Bonfire was released, which included an updated version of Back in Black.
Rolling Stone magazine ranked Back in Black at number 190 on their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. On VH1’s 40 Greatest Metal Songs, it came in at number four, and on VH1’s Top 40 Hard Rock Songs, it came in at number two.

Back in Black Lyrics
back in black
I hit the sack
I’ve been too long
I’m glad to be back
[I bet you know I’m…]
Yes, I’m let loose
From the noose
That’s kept me hanging about
I’ve been looking at the sky
‘Cause it’s gettin’ me high
Forget the hearse ’cause I never die
I got nine lives
Cat’s eyes
Abusin’ every one of them and running wild
CHORUS:
‘Cause I’m back
Yes, I’m back
Well, I’m back
Yes, I’m back
Well, I’m back, back
(Well) I’m back in black
Yes, I’m back in black
Back in the back
Of a Cadillac
Number one with a bullet, I’m a power pack
Yes, I’m in a bang
With a gang
They’ve got to catch me if they want me to hang
Cause I’m back on the track
And I’m beatin’ the flack
Nobody’s gonna get me on another rap
So look at me now
I’m just makin’ my play
Don’t try to push your luck
Just get out of my way
Back in Black Lyrics
Back in black
I fell asleep
I’ve been gone too long
And I’m glad to be back
(I bet you know it)
Yes I broke out
From the trap
And that’s why he wandered around
I looked at the sky for a long time
‘Cause that’s what makes me happy
Forget the hearse ’cause I’ll never die
I have nine lives
Cat’s eyes,
Insulting everyone and driving them crazy
Chorus:
‘Cause I’m back
Yes I’m back
Well I’m back
Yes I’m back
Well I’m back, back
I’m back in black
Yes, I’m back in black
Back in the back seat again
Cadillac
Number one with a bullet, I’m the embodiment of power
Yes, I’m on a roll
If they want to hang me, they’ll have to catch me first.
‘Cause I’m on my way again
And I’m very popular
No one else can beat me
So look at me
I play my game
Don’t tempt fate
Just get out of the way
