All My Love Lyrics – Led Zeppelin Song Meaning

Led Zeppelin’s 11th tour ended three weeks ahead of schedule. The reason for this was the sudden death of the son of Robert Plant, five-year-old Karak. He died from a rare viral infection. Heartbroken, the musician locked himself in a rural estate and did not appear in public for about a year. Robert made the decision to leave music and even enrolled in a teacher training college to become a teacher.

Perhaps he would have succeeded in the field of teaching, but John Bonham, the drummer of Led Zeppelin, persuaded him to return to the group. To restore his skills, Plant had to go on a short-term solo tour of British clubs, during which he played famous blues compositions.

The history of creation and the meaning of the song All My Love

At the end of 1978, the team in full strength began to work on the album In Through the Out Door. One of the songs on this disc was All My Love (“All my love”), dedicated to Karak. It was written by Robert Plant and John Paul Jones.

All My Love was one of two Led Zeppelin songs not written by Jimmy Page (South Bound Saurez was the other). He did not like her, but for obvious reasons he refrained from critical remarks.

In an interview with Guitar World magazine in 1998, Page said that All My Love was appropriate for the situation, but that he didn’t want Led Zeppelin to go in that direction.

The band performed All My Love during the 1980 European tour and was received very warmly by the audience. The song was later included on several official Led Zeppelin best-of compilations.

All My Love Lyrics

Should I fall out of love, my fire in the night
To chase a feather in the wind
Within the glow that weaves a cloak of delight
There moves a thread that has no end

For many hours and days that pass ever soon
The tides have caused the flame to dim
At last the arm is straight, the hand to the loom
Is this to end or just begin?

chorus:
All of my love, all of my love
All of my love to you

The cup is raised, the toast is made yet again
One voice is clear above the din
Proud Ariadne one word, my will to sustain
For me, the cloth once more to spin

Yours is the cloth, mine is the hand that sews time
His is the force that lies within
Ours is the fire, all the warmth we can find
He is a feather in the wind
