The composition Trust, which was recorded by Megadeth for the album Cryptic Writings, has become one of the most popular and successful in the work of the group.
The beautiful song by Marty Friedman and Dave Mustaine received active rotation on MTV and rose high in the American charts.
The story of Creation and Meaning of Trust
Friedman said that the song “Trust” began with a break from the track “Absolution”, which he wrote back in 1992. They tried to record it while working on the albums Countdown to Extinction and Youthanasia, but were not happy with the results. As a result, the musicians abandoned Absolution and used an excerpt from it in Trust.
The meaning of the song Trust is clear without explanation: mutual lies destroy trust between partners and kill love. Dave Mustaine described the main idea this way:
I could tell a lot about it, but no matter how I explain it, I will not be able to convey all that pain. I’ve had great relationships many times that have fallen apart when I’ve been led astray. I do not want to say that I am perfect or without sin, but I think singing songs about this helps to heal and return to life.
Release and achievements
The song Trust opens the album Cryptic Writings, released in 1997. It was released as a single in English and Spanish. It peaked at number five on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, the highest charting achievement in Megadeth history at the time.
Trust was later featured on several compilation albums.
In 1998, the song was nominated for a Grammy but lost out to Tool’s Aenima.
