Many of the most famous rock hits were written in just a few minutes. This was approximately the case with the famous composition Coz I Luv You by the British band Slade.
Manager Chas Chandler, a former member of The Animals, insisted that his charges more often write words and music themselves. After one of these conversations, the song to which the article is dedicated was born.

He told us to write a hit song, and it was not very easy. Jimmy and I wrote Coz I Luv You in twenty minutes and Chas was blown away by her. We thought it wasn’t fatal enough for Slade. So we added all these slaps and stomps, which made it more commercially successful and became our trademark.

That was the time when I mostly wrote with Don and Dave with Nod. Nod and I were into Stefan Grappelli and Django Reinhardt – violin and all – so one day I went to the neighborhood where Nod lived with his mom and dad and I said, “Hey Nod, why don’t we write a song?” Since I brought the violin, I said: “Why don’t we write something in the spirit of Stefan Grappelli?” Then Marc Bolan’s Hot Love was on the charts, and I suggested something similar, something very simple, and in half an hour we wrote a song. We had a melody structure and Nod just filled in the blanks. It’s the only song we’ve written like this.

As Holder recalled, they intentionally made mistakes in the title of the track:
We thought “Because I Love You” was a stupid title for a song, so we used a spelling that could be on a bathroom wall in the Midlands, and that made it killer.

Release and achievements
The single Coz I Luv You was released in the fall of 1971 and was at number one on the UK Singles Chart two weeks later.
But the musicians from the rock band Slade themselves do not really appreciate Coz I Luv You. Jim Lee said about the song:
We considered it a woman’s, written to finish the album. But within two weeks, it skyrocketed to number one, and we were like, “What the hell!” It was so stupid.

Interesting Facts
- After the release of Coz I Luv You, the righteous anger of representatives of the education sector fell upon the Slade group. The musicians were accused of encouraging young people to deliberately make spelling mistakes with their song.
