Starting the shooting of the fourth part of “Transformers”, Michael Bay tried to distance Age of Extinction from the previous three films in this series as much as possible. One of the steps taken was the decision to involve a new team in recording the soundtrack.
The director’s choice fell on the young American band Imagine Dragons, who composed and recorded the film’s main musical theme, the song Battle Cry.
History of Battle Cry – Imagine Dragons
Its participants did not immediately agree to take on the job, but they were persuaded. Dan Reynolds recalled the history behind the creation of Battle Cry:
Everything happened so harmoniously. At first we thought we couldn’t do it. We all refused, because we physically did not have enough time. But we ended up with him [режиссером Майклом Бэем] in one room, he told us this story, and from that moment on, a melody sounded in my head.
Some songs take a year to write, but Battle Cry quickly wrote itself. It was cool to write a song with a more cinematic approach. We tried to create something that would help build the visual, as opposed to something that was just good for the song.

Reynolds also said that they were impressed by the collaboration with famous composers:
We were contacted and asked if we would like to do something in common with Hans Zimmer and Steve Jablonski, and they are both idols for us for all time – just legends. Working with them is just incredible. We all grew up on the cartoon “Transformers”, which was part of our youth, because we are children of the eighties …
While in the room with them, we played something, and they used to change just one note, and suddenly because of this there was a feeling of remorse or happiness.

Release and achievements
The song was recorded at Imagine Dragons Studios in Las Vegas. On June 2, 2014, it was officially released in digital format.
Battle Cry achieved its greatest success on the Billboard Hot Rock Songs chart, where it peaked at number 24.
In 2015, the song was included on the deluxe edition of the band’s second studio album, Smoke + Mirrors.
