However, producer Rick Rubin saw potential in it and decided to turn it into a full-fledged composition. He added guitar and drum parts, after which he took the song to the radio.

In February 1987, Fight for Your Right was released as a single from the band’s debut album Licensed to Ill and reached number seven on the Billboard Hot 100, which was an undoubted success for the young band.

The music video was directed by Rick Menello and Adam Dubin. They took the party scene from the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s as a basis, borrowing a few ideas from the horror movie Dawn of the Dead. Menello described its main idea with the phrase “infantile rebellion.”
