The fourth studio album “Reckless” was a huge success for Bryan Adams, because six tracks at once turned out to be international hits that climbed to high positions in the charts. Among them was the composition “Run to You”, one of the artist’s most famous songs. But at first the group for which it was written abandoned it, and later Adams himself did not want to include it on the disc, considering it not strong enough.
Sound engineer Bob Clearmountain, who worked on the Reckless album, had this to say about the history of the song:
When I first heard “Run to You” I thought it was good enough, but Brian considered not including it on the album. He was writing songs for other bands at the time, and there was some band that he was going to give it to. I remember when I first arrived, we drove around the city in his car, and he played demos for me. When we got to “Run to You” he said, “I’m not sure what to do with her.” And I said: “You should put it in the album. It’s a beautiful song.”

Indeed, in 1983, Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance composed a song for Blue Oyster Cult at the request of the band’s producer. First came the guitar riff, from which the whole composition later developed. However, customers did not like the track. Adams suggested “Run to You” to the .38 Special, but it didn’t work for them either. Only after that Brian decided to try to release it himself.
Work on the song went from early spring to late summer 1984 at Little Mountain Sound Studios in Vancouver. It became the last track included in the Reckless album because Adams doubted its quality to the last. As it turned out, it was completely in vain, since “Run to You”, published as the first single from the record, topped the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart and reached number six on the Billboard Hot 100. Subsequently, it entered all Brian’s greatest compositions compilations.
The music video for “Run to You” was directed by Steve Barron. His work was nominated for MTV Video Music Awards in five categories, but did not receive a single award.

Run to You lyrics“Run to You” lyricsShe says her love for me could never die
But that’d change if she ever found out about you and I
Oh – but her love is cold
It wouldn’t hurt her if she didn’t know, cause…
When it gets too much
I need to feel your touch She says her love for me can never die
But that would change if she knew about you and me
Oh but her love is cold
If she doesn’t find out, it won’t hurt her because…
When it gets unbearable
I need to feel your touch
I’m gonna run to you
Cause when the feelin’s right I’m gonna run all night
I’m gonna run to you
I will run to you
‘Cause when it’s real, I’ll be racing all night
She’s got a heart of gold she’d never let me down
But you’re the one that always turns me on
You keep me comin’ ’round
I know her love is true
But it’s so damn easy makin’ love to you
I got my mind made up
I need to feel your touch She has a heart of gold, she will never let me down
But only you turn me on
I’m constantly drawn to you
I know that her love is real
But making love to you is so damn cool
I already decided everything
I need to feel your touch
