The story of Anthrax’s beautiful acoustic ballad “Pieces” has a lot to do with bass player Frank Bello, nephew of drummer Charlie Benante. Initially, Frank was part of the technical staff that accompanied the band on tour, but then he was invited to become one of the members of the group, in which he performed for many years.
On March 25, 1996, tragedy struck the Bello family. His younger brother Anthony was shot dead in the Bronx, New York. The killers were never found. In memory of him, Frank got a tattoo on his left shoulder with a portrait of his brother and the signature “In Memory of Anthony”. And he dedicated the song “Pieces” to him, in which he promises to always remember Anthony.
The composition was included in the disc “Volume 8: The Threat Is Real” (“Volume 8: The Threat Is Real”), the eighth in the discography of Anthrax and the only one released on the label Ignition Records.
In some versions of the album, the song “Pieces” is hidden. It’s not on the track listing, but it’s on the CD.
Pieces lyrics“Pieces” lyricsThe sun shining is off his face again
Another day to reflect
I hope you understand
Looking for the sign that lets me know
That you’re fine
That you’ve finally just
Found your way back home
Another day to reflect
I hope you understand
I’m looking for a sign to let me know
That you’re doing well
that you finally
Found a way back home Feel you within, feel you everywhere
You’ll path the sky
Will get me anywhere
So take me some place
Where I will always know
That you’re fine
That you’ve finally just
Found your way back home
You pave the way in the sky
And take me anywhere
So take me to a place like this
Where I will always know
That you’re doing well
that you finally
Found my way back home Who’s to tell me I have to let it go?
I need to say this, have to let you know
I’ll be here waiting for our souls to meet
I’ll be here waiting for your call to me
I need to say it, I need to let you know
That I’ll be here waiting for our souls to meet
That I’ll be here waiting for your call Anthony, I know you’re home
Right beside me, all alone
Anthony, I have so much to say
In my heart, you will always remain
I’ll never be alone
Next to me, all alone
Anthony, I have so much to say
You will forever remain in my heart
I’ll never be alone
Maybe I don’t wanna see
I distinct this fight won’t play for me
Let us just think that I will
I think I know
That you’re fine
That you’ve finally just
Found your way back home Maybe I’m blind
Maybe I don’t want to see
I am aware that this battle will not be in my favor.
Let’s just think it will be like this
I think I know
That you’re doing well
that you finally
Found my way back home I question my faith
I question everything
I need to know if this is all there is
So take me some place
Where I will always know
That you’re fine
That you’ve finally just
Found your way back home
I question everything
I need to know if there is more
So take me to a place like this
Where I will always know
That you’re doing well
that you finally
Found my way back home Who’s to tell me I have to let it go?
I need to say this, I have to let you know
I’ll be here waiting for our souls to meet
I’ll be here waiting for your call to me
I need to say it, I need to let you know
That I’ll be here waiting for our souls to meet
That I’ll be here waiting for your call Anthony, I know you’re home
Right beside me, all alone
Anthony, I have so much to say
In my heart, you will always remain
Next to me, all alone
Anthony, I have so much to say
You will forever remain in my heart
I will never be alone Anthony, my brother, my friend
I’ll be with you once again
Anthony, my heart owns your faith
It will always light your day
And never be alone x4 Anthony, brother, buddy,
One day I will be with you again
Anthony, I have faith in you in my heart.
She will always light up your days
And you’ll never be alone x4
