Members of The Cardigans were not indifferent to computer games, which saved them from boredom during long tours. They say that they named their fourth studio album Gran Turismo in honor of the PlayStation game of the same name, although the musicians themselves explain the meaning of the name differently.
The story of creation and the meaning of the song My Favorite Game
Also, in some publications there is a statement that they told about their hobby in the composition My Favorite Game from the same disc. According to a more traditional interpretation of the song, it is about parting with a former lover. So choose the option that seems more likely to you.
The story of The Cardigans, written by Peter Svensson and Nina Persson, began with a slow, acoustic country-rock version. Producer Tore Johansson then suggested doubling the pace, and through further rehearsals, My Favorite Game became what we know it to be.
At first, the band members considered the song just as one of the tracks for the new album, but later it became clear that My Favorite Game should be released as the first single. It went on sale in the autumn of 1998 and hit the charts in many countries. The song enjoyed the greatest success in Sweden and Japan, where it rose to the third line of the local charts.
Video of My Favorite Game by The Cardigans
The video for the song The Cardigans should be discussed separately. In the full version of the video, Nina Persson gets into an old Calillac Eldorado, presses the gas pedal with a stone and rushes into the oncoming lane, causing numerous accidents. At the end of the clip, she crashes into a van with the other band members.
In total, five versions of the video were filmed, but most of the well-known TV channels recognized all of them as too violent and refused to broadcast the video without cuts. They only aired a stripped-down and boring version in which Persson was just driving down a deserted highway.
Now we offer you to watch one of the variants of the clip My Favorite Game – The Cardigans.

My Favorite Game Lyrics by The Cardigans
I don’t know what you’re looking for
You haven’t found it baby that’s for sure
You rip me up and spread me all around
In the dust of the dead of time
And this is not a case of lust you see
It’s not a matter of you versus of me
It’s fine the way you want me on your own
But in the end it’s always me alone
And I’m losing my favorite game
You’re losing your mind again
I’m losing my baby
Losing my favorite game
I only know what I’ve been working for
Another you so I could love you more
I really thought that I could take you there
But my experiment is not getting us anywhere
I had a vision I could turn you right
A stupid mission and a lethal fight
I should have seen it when my hope was new
My heart is black and my body is blue
And I’m losing my favorite game
You’re losing your mind again
I’m losing my favorite game
I’ve tried but you’re still the same
I’m losing my baby
You’re losing a savior and a saint
Lyrics of My Favorite Game by The Cardigans Alternate
I don’t know what you are looking for
But it’s pretty clear you didn’t find it baby
You broke my heart into pieces and left it
Into the dust of time
And it’s not about passion, as you know
This is not our confrontation with you
It’s good that you want me
But in the end I always end up alone
And I’m losing at my favorite game
You’re going crazy again
I am losing my baby
Losing at my favorite game
I only know that I worked for
Another you so I can love you more
I really thought that I could take you there
But my experiment leads us nowhere
I dreamed that I could guide you on the true path
Silly mission and deadly fight
I should have realized this when my hope was just born
My heart is black and my body is blue
And I’m losing at my favorite game
You’re going crazy again
I’m losing at my favorite game
I tried but you’re still the same
I am losing my baby
You lose the savior and the saint
