In 1991, Chris Rea released his twelfth studio album, Auberge. He climbed to the top of the British charts and consolidated the success that the musician achieved with his previous album The Road to Hell. Auberge pleased the fans with several major hits at once. One of them was the beautiful composition Looking for the Summer. The article is devoted to the history of its creation.
The story of the creation of the song Looking for the Summer by Chris Rea
Chris said that the idea for the song came to him while watching his daughter Josephine play in the garden. She played with the ball, but then threw it away and began to carefully examine everything that happened behind the fence that separated the yard from the street. Rea realized that the girl began to grow up, and expressed the emotions that washed over him in the text Looking for the Summer.
He later explained its meaning in an interview:
…basically, the idea of the song is that the guy looks at his daughter, who is about to reach adolescence, and she is no longer his little girl. And he sees how she turns away and is in search of her summer. She is still spring looking for summer, and he is already autumn, he looks back and remembers how he was also looking for his summer. And in the third verse, he remembers how he and his wife fought and hurt each other more and more as they both searched for their summer, and he, in many ways, is still in search of it.
Looking for the Summer was released as one of the singles from Auberge.

Looking for the Summer Lyrics by Chris Rea
Look deep into the April face
A change is clearly taking place
looking for the summer
The eyes take on a certain gaze
And leave behind the springtime days
Go looking for the summer
This ain’t no game of kiss and tell
The implications how you knew so well
Go looking for the summer
The time has come and they must go
To play the passion out that haunts you so
looking for the summer
Remember love how it was the same
We scratched and hurt each other’s growing pains
We were looking for the summer
And still I stand this very day
With a burning wish to fly away
I’m still looking, looking for the summer
Lyrics of Looking for the Summer by Chris Rea Alternate
Look into the face of April
Something is clearly changing.
In search of summer
There was a look in the eyes
Their spring days are behind them
Onward in search of summer
This is not a game of feelings
hints that you knew so well
Onward in search of summer
The time has come and they have to go
Play the passion that haunts you
In search of summer
Do you remember, my love, how everything was the same with us
We fought and hurt each other more and more
We were looking for summer
And I live the same day
With a burning desire to fly away
I’m still looking, looking for summer
