Meaning of Lemon Tree by Fools Garden & The Story Behind

Fools Garden is the clearest example of a musical group that became famous thanks to one hit. You can talk about the solid age of this German group and remember how many decent songs they released.

But an ordinary music lover is unlikely to remember anything from their creative heritage, except for the song Lemon Tree, which conquered the charts in many countries in the second half of the nineties.

The story of creation and the meaning of the song Lemon Tree – Fools Garden

Fools Garden frontman Peter Freudenthaler said that the story of the Lemon Tree song began in his country house. It was raining, and he was waiting for a girl who, for some reason, was in no hurry to please him with her company. To dispel boredom and cheer himself up, Peter sat down at the piano and, starting with the phrase “I wonder how, I why wonder”, composed a song in about twenty minutes. By the way, the girl did not come that day …

On foreign sites there is a different version. Allegedly, the song was written after Freudenthaler’s fiancée, a French woman named Benedict Le Gall, died in a car accident, crashing into a lemon tree. It is difficult to say how true this story is. Neither confirmation nor refutation of this information could be found in authoritative sources.

Lemon Tree Release and Achievements

In December 1995, the composition was released as a single from the album Dish of the Day. It topped the charts in Germany, Austria, Ireland, Sweden and Norway. It peaked at number 26 on the UK Singles Chart.

In 2009, the Fools Garden band released a new version of the song, which was included in the collection of the best compositions of the High Times band – The Best of Fools Garden.

Lemon Tree Lyrics by Fools Garden

I’m sitting down here in the boring room
It’s just another rainy Sunday afternoon
I’m wasting my time
I got nothing to do
I’m hanging around I’m a-waiting for you
But nothing ever happens
And I wonder

I’m driving around in my car
I’m driving too fast
I’m driving too far
I’d like to change my point of view
I feel so lonely
I’m waiting for you
But nothing ever happens
And I wonder

chorus:
I wonder how
I wonder why
Yesterday you told me ’bout the blue, blue sky
And all that I can see is just a yellow lemon tree
I’m turning my head up and down
I’m turning, turning, turning, turning, turning around
And all that I can see is just another lemon tree

I’m sitting here
I miss the power
I’d like to go out
Taking a shower
But there’s a heavy cloud inside my head
I feel so tired, put myself into bed
But nothing ever happens
And I wonder

Isolation is not good for me
Isolation
I don’t want to sit on a lemon tree
I’m stepping around in the desert of joy
Maybe anyhow I’ll get another toy
And everything will happen
And you’ll wonder

Lyrics of Lemon Tree by Fools Garden Alternate

I’m sitting in a boring room
Just a typical rainy sunday
I’m wasting my time
I have nothing to do
I’m hanging around and waiting for you
But nothing happens
And I wonder…

I drive around in the car
I drive too fast
I drive too far
I would like to change my point of view
I feel so alone
I’m waiting for you,
But nothing happens
And I wonder…

Chorus:
I wonder why,
I wonder why
Yesterday you told me about blue blue skies
And all I see is a yellow lemon tree
I lift my head up and down
I turn, turn, turn, turn, turn
But all I see is just another lemon tree

I’m sitting here
I don’t have enough strength
I would like to go outside
I am taking a shower
But there are clouds in my head
I’m so tired and lay down in bed
But nothing happens
And I wonder…

Loneliness is not good for me
Loneliness
I don’t want to sit on a lemon tree
I walk around in the desert of joy
Maybe I can somehow find a new toy
And everything will happen
And you will be surprised
