Go Robot was conceived by the members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers as the first single from the album The Getaway, but she had to give way to the composition Dark Necessities. However, this did not affect the popularity of the track. The fans of the famous rock band liked it and hit the charts in several countries. And the video clip filmed for it won the hearts of music lovers.
The story of creation and the meaning of the song Go Robot
The main idea of the composition caused controversy among RHCP fans, but then the authors themselves explained its main idea. The text refers to the fact that for many modern people, sex has become something routine, even mechanical. They have sexual intercourse without experiencing feelings, which makes them look like robots.
Speaking to Mike McCready, Flea called the song a “funky uptempo jam” and spoke a bit about working on the track:
It’s funny because when we wrote it and mixed it and everything… I wanted it to sound like Prince’s Controversy.

Recording and release of Go Robot
The RHCP members began writing Go Robot before collaborating with producer Brian Burton, alias Danger Mouse. Drummer Chad Smith recalled his take on the song:
Some parts of the song he really liked, and some, he thought, could be improved. And we did take it apart a bit and we changed the chorus, but it’s always been this really hard funk song that it is now.
In September 2016, “Go Robot” was released as the second single from RHCP’s “The Getaway” album. The track reached several Billboard charts and was featured on the charts in several other countries.

The video clip for the hit Red Hot Chili Peppers was directed by Tota Lee. The source of inspiration for her was the famous musical Saturday Night Fever with John Travolta. If you haven’t seen the video, be sure to check it out. Almost naked Anthony Kiedis, covered in white paint from head to toe, looks funny. Fans of Saturday Night Fever will find numerous references to various scenes from the movie.

- As part of The Getaway World tour, the band performed Go Robot at almost every show.
- A live version of the track was included on the album Live in Paris.
- The “live” version of the song has two bass guitar parts. Additional performances are played by manager Samuel Banuelos III.
- Dancer Stephanie Crousillat appears in the Go Robot video.
- The single Go Robot/Dreams of a Samurai is scheduled to be released on April 22, 2017. The exclusive edition will be limited to 5,000 copies.
