How did the movie “Farsi Lessons” end?

In the center of the story is a Belgian of Jewish origin who really wanted to live. The character is extremely unlucky. By coincidence, he ended up in a Nazi concentration camp. He had practically no chance of further existence. However, even in this seemingly hopeless situation, he did not give up. The character decided to impersonate a Persian. The Belgian had an unusual plan in his head. He invented the language. who began to pass off as Farsi. It was him that he began to teach German history. Let’s analyze how this difficult story ended.

A cunning simple-minded Jewish boy and a stern German officer. Initially, their communication was built very difficult. Gilles and Koch. Luckily, the Belgian had a rare Persian collection in his hands. A further plan of action ripened almost instantly. However, despite their better position. the character felt very uncomfortable in the camp. He understood that he was in a winning position than the other prisoners. This realization was painfully reflected in his heart every day, he felt more and more acutely his guilt before the others. The characters were doomed to death. But Gilles had a chance to survive.

Koch is the opposite of Belgian. The rude and principled officer was not immediately imbued with confidence in Gilles. And the character knew it. Therefore, he tried his best to pass himself off as a Persian. He practically did not tell anything about himself, because he was well aware that any extra word could cost him his life. Self-confident Koch gave Gil an exam. Only in this nervous situation, luck smiled at the character. In the truck, the pseudo-Persian learned a few words, one of which the officer asked him. Over time, the Nazi cook noticed a kindred spirit in Gilles. The lessons became for him not only a way to gain knowledge about a new language for himself, but also an opportunity to speak out, to share his difficult fate.

The story of Gilles and Koch can hardly be called friendship. The characters were way too different. Their relationship was built on the principle of “prisoner-jailer”. There were no exceptions to this system. Soon this cooperation turned into a mutually beneficial relationship. The exploitation of one character has been replaced by the exploitation of another. The Belgian of Jewish origin managed the almost impossible. He managed to turn the Nazi officer to face the other prisoners as well. He began to help the prisoners. He even became able to compromise, which was not noticed in him before.

Farsi lessons, invented by Gilles, became a kind of psychotherapy for Koch. The Nazi officer talked about his past, about missed opportunities. And these conversations made him feel better at heart. In the face of the Belgian, who pretended to be a Persian, he saw a comrade who understood him. For Gilles, such a relationship was also beneficial. After all, this was his only opportunity to survive, which he did not want to miss.

Koch is a harsh, but at the same time infantile character. He could not contain his feelings, his thoughts. He needed a “vest”, support. A complex character is endowed with feelings that reveal him from different angles. Even in the oppressive atmosphere of a concentration camp, the filmmakers infuse their narrative with humor. The story of the Belgian survivor of Jewish origin can be classified as a tragicomedy of positions.

If initially Gilles easily came to mind with “new” words invented by him, then in the process of further teaching the language, certain difficulties arose with this. The fantasy of the character was not limitless. Then he picked up a magazine in which the names of the prisoners were indicated. Of these, Gilles began to compose new words. So the victims of the Holocaust began to be immortalized in a fictitious language, which the pseudo-Persian began to pass off as Farsi. Ironically, Gilles’ only student was a Nazi officer who, without realizing it, memorized the names of the victims. In the final episodes, the pseudo-Persian lists the prisoners of the concentration camp. To do this, he needed to reconstruct the Farsi language.
