The Falkland Islands were first discovered by English navigators, who gave them such a name, and then by the French, who called them the Malvins. Over the years, several states claimed the archipelago, including Great Britain, to which it now belongs.
Having declared independence, Argentina declared the islands its territory, but later the British recaptured them. In 1982, a new military conflict broke out, as a result of which more than nine hundred people were killed on both sides, and the Falklands remained in British possession.
The history and meaning of the song Brothers in Arms – Dire Straits
To the credit of the inhabitants of Foggy Albion, many of them did not approve of the government’s decision to get involved in the Falklands War. Among her opponents was Mark Knopfler, leader of the British band Dire Straits.
Impressed by the senseless death of hundreds of soldiers, he wrote the song Brothers in Arms (“Brothers in Arms”).
They say he was inspired by the phrase of his father, who said that one should not fight against the same brothers in arms. The author of Brothers in Arms brings us to the same conclusion in the final lines of the song.

Brothers in Arms Lyrics
These mist covered mountains
Are a home now for me
But my home is the lowlands
And always will be
Some day you’ll return to
Your valleys and your farms
And you’ll no longer burn
To be brothers in arm
Through these fields of destruction
Baptism of fire
I’ve watched all your suffering
As the battles raged higher
And though they did hurt me so bad
In the fear and alarm
You didn’t desert me
My brothers in arms
There’s so many different worlds
So many different suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones
Now the sun’s gone to hell
And the moon’s riding high
Let me bid you farewell
Every man has to die
But it’s written in the starlight
And every line on your palm
We’re fools to make war
On our brothers in arms
Brothers in Arms Lyrics
These mountains shrouded in mist
Became a home for me for a while
But my house is in the valley
And will always be there
One day you will return to
Their valleys and their farms
And you won’t be anymore
Brothers in arms
In these fields of destruction
Having been baptized by fire,
I saw how you suffered
During increasingly fierce battles
And though I suffered greatly
From fear and anxiety
You didn’t leave me
My brothers in arms
There are so many different worlds
So many different suns
And we have one world
But we live in different
Now the sun has set in the underworld,
And the moon rose high
let me say goodbye to you
Everyone is destined to die
But in the light of the stars
And in every line on your palm it says
We are fools, since we are at war
Against your brothers in arms
